People's Armed Forces of Benin

As Dahomey, Benin became an independent state within the French community in 1958, with an embryonic air arm with the Army. Force Aerienne du Dahomey. This was equipped with the standard package of communications aircraft alotted to former French African colonies and comprised a Douglas C-47, three Max Holste 1521M Broussard (Bushranger) and an Alouette 11 helicopter. The USA donated an Aero Commander 500B VIP transport.

While the equipment has ben updated since, economic problems have meant that two An-26 transports and a Twin Otter are shared with the national airline, Benin Inter Regional. The remaining aircraft include 2 C-47, 2 Dornier Do-128 and an Ecureiul helicopter as well as the Aero Commander and Alouette 11, a VIP flight of an F-28 and a Boeing 707-320.
