Central African Squadron Formerly part of French Equatorial Africa, the Central African Republic became independent in 1960, after which it received military aid from France. Originally created as the Central African Air Force, the small air arm initially had the more or less standard French departing gift of a single C-47, three Max Holste 1521M Broussards (Bushrangers) and an Alouette II helicopter. Severe financial difficulties have resulted in reductions since, and the reduction in status to an air arm of the Army. It has a single AS350 Ecureil helicopter and a Rallye Guerier trainer for liaison duty. A VIP Dassault Falcon 20 and a Caravelle are not believed to be operational. |
