Civil Guard Air Surveillance Unit

Although Costa Rica maintained a small air force until the end of a civil war in 1948, it has since depended on paramilitary security forces, with a small air surveillance unit and unarmed observation and transport aircraft. The largest aircraft are 2 DHC-4 Cariboo transports and a Mi-17 helicopter. Light aircraft include a Piper Navajo and a Seneca, 4 Cessna U206G Stationairs and an O-2 Bird Dog AOP aircraft. There are 2 MD500E helicopters.
