Djibouti Air Force Djibouti gained independence from France in 1977. The country received the standard package of 3 Max Holste Broussard (Bushranger) aircraft, a C-47 and an AlouetteII helicopter, while a significant French presence has remained. The region is important strategically at the narrow southern end of the Red Sea, and unstable politically. The air force is very small and other aircraft have been acquired. At least 1 of the 2 Mi-2 helicopters has been armed with rocket pods. Other aircraft include 1 An-28 received from Poland, a VIP Falcon 50, a Cessna 402 Communications aircraft and U206G liaison aircraft, 5 Mi-8 and 2 AS355F Ecureil helicopters. |
