The author was an Australian Air Force pilot sent to UK during WW2. He joined the Pathfinder Force, that group of pilots who lead the way to targets, flying alone and low to clearly mark the targets with flares and incendiaries for the heavy bombers. This was exceptionally dangerous work. Many didn't make it back. The author had 62 Pathfinder Ops flights.
